Accessibility statement

This statement applies to the AVIE web application, which is operated by Volunteer Edinburgh. We want as many people as possible to be able to use AVIE. If you have difficulty using any part of it, please contact us using the details below.

As part of our ongoing accessibility work, we are checking whether you can:

  • navigate AVIE using a keyboard
  • move past repeated navigation and reach the main content
  • see which interactive element has focus when using a keyboard
  • use the content on a small screen without horizontal scrolling

We have not yet confirmed that these work consistently throughout AVIE. For advice on making your device easier to use, visit AbilityNet.

How accessible this website is

We aim for AVIE to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA standard. We have not completed a full accessibility assessment, so we cannot yet confirm whether AVIE meets that standard.

Accessibility problems

Our assessment is not complete, so we cannot yet give a full list of accessibility problems. The checks so far have identified:

  • Automated WAVE checks identified missing labels on the AVIE-GPT message field and prompt form text areas. We have added labels to those fields.
  • We are reviewing the remaining WAVE findings. Manual testing is not complete, so there may be other issues that we have not identified.

We have not claimed any content as exempt from accessibility requirements or as a disproportionate burden. We will update this statement as we confirm further issues and make improvements.

If you need information from AVIE in another format, or cannot use a feature, contact us and tell us which page or feature you need help with. We will discuss your request and use your feedback to improve the service.

Give us feedback

If you find an accessibility problem that is not listed here, or think we are not meeting accessibility requirements, please let us know. You can email hello@volunteeredinburgh.org.uk or call 0131 225 0630. You can also write to Volunteer Edinburgh, 222 Leith Walk, Edinburgh, EH6 5EQ.

When you contact us, please tell us which page or feature you were using and what you were trying to do. Please do not include passwords or other sensitive information.

Enforcement procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the accessibility regulations. If you are not satisfied with how we respond to your feedback, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).

Technical information about this website's accessibility

Volunteer Edinburgh is committed to making AVIE accessible, in line with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018. This statement will be updated when an accessibility assessment has been completed and as we address identified problems.

Preparation of this statement

We have started checking AVIE using automated WAVE accessibility checks. Automated checks can identify some issues, but they do not find every accessibility barrier or replace manual testing. We are reviewing the results, working on improvements, and carrying out further checks. More manual testing is needed before we can confirm AVIE's level of compliance.

This statement was prepared and last reviewed on 1 October 2026.
